Diction donates translations to a Chilean cultural house for underprivileged children
At Diction, we are advocates for charity work. Therefore, we have been searching for a project within education and language that we could support - a mission that has now been accomplished. In Chile, Anne Hansen has been fighting for over two decades to help underprivileged children in the city of Valparaíso. Her NGO's latest project is the construction of a children's cultural house, where young people can receive education and participate in cultural activities. To support this good initiative, we have donated translations of the project materials and have also decided to support the project going forward.
Libro Alegre's mission
Anne Hansen's fight to help underprivileged Chilean children dates back a long time. In 2001, she began walking through the city of Valparaíso with Scandinavian children's books, which she read aloud to the city's children - she had translated the books into Spanish by hand. The good cause gradually gained more and more attention, which led to more donations and more volunteers, as well as the founding of the Libro Alegre (Happy Book) association.
Today, the city is home to two children's libraries, filled with Nordic children's books, but the NGO still sees more opportunities. Their latest project is the construction of a cultural house, where children can receive and participate in educational and cultural activities, so they can gain the tools to be seen and heard in Chilean society.
Although donations have been received so far to acquire a plot of land and an architectural drawing, there is still a lack of capital for the construction of the building itself. A project material has therefore been developed, containing information about the NGO and the children's cultural house, and the hope is that it can help to focus attention on the project, so that more funds can be raised.
A helping hand
At Diction, we have chosen to support this good initiative by contributing with free translations of the project material and by deciding to support the project going forward. Regarding the donation, Anne Hansen stated: "The children's cultural house is our newest construction project, which will make an enormous difference for the children in Valparaíso. We have come a long way, but we still need help from more kind souls before the building can become a reality. I am therefore very grateful for Diction's contribution, which will assist in promoting the project."
At Diction, we are constantly trying to improve and optimize our translation services. This includes constantly trying to expand our corps of professional translators, so we can solve any task in the best possible way. This approach has resulted in us currently having more than 2,000 freelance translators affiliated, and we were therefore able to easily find a specialist who could effectively and accurately translate the project material from Danish to Spanish.
"As a starting point, we are always interested in helping organizations and associations that serve a good purpose and make the world a better place. Since our company consists of language experts, we understand the importance of children having the opportunity to learn to read and write. Therefore, the decision to support the children's cultural house was a natural choice," says Martin Boberg, CEO of Diction.
